After 17 years of playing guitar by trial and error, I decided to learn to read music and understand my guitar more. Iam on my way to learning the fretboard, so I no longer have to be scared of its infinite possibilities. Should have done this sooner. Great video.

If you are serious about music, you should learn how to read. It’s not that hard and it will help you understand, play and express yourself more clearly.

Hi, I was planning …
Hi, I was planning to follow all of your video’s in the hope I would eventually play the guitar well.
However, I couldn’t even do the first task. I have quite small fingers and i could only reach the first 3 fretz comfortably.
Does this mean i’m not suited to play the guitar or is there a way around it?
P.S im 16 if that has anything to do with it

Hi Susan. I’ve just …
Hi Susan. I’ve just started to learn to play guitar; I figured that if I left this until I started wandering around supermarkets in my pyjamas it might be leaving things a bit late. As difficult as teaching my obtuse fingers is what I have most dreaded is learning staves, tabs being more than enough to take in. I have decided to try (against my better judgement!) and signed up for your book. There appears to be method to your madness ;-). PS. What did MD say about Jimi? I can’t find this.

I’m not here to …
I’m not here to debate the merits of learning how to read music on the guitar, just provide it for the students who want to reach their full potential.
Music theory, including chord and scale theory is also included in Volume One. I believe that students should have all the tools available to them.
There are lots of online debates about all this - Look them up and decide for yourself. I’d encourage students to just get to work and see the results for themselves. That’s what the pros did.

Music theory, scale …
Music theory, scale theory, is way more important. Especially if you are interacting with pro players. Nobody blasts out note bodies onto a wall thru their teeth for all to look at on the fly. But changes and modulations are vocally communicated within performances all the time. The guitar is not the same instrument that creates high school band instrument music reading cyborgs. And yes, I do read pretty fluently. Do I ever have to use it professionally? nope
